Bucharest, June 2010. D&B David şi Baias, the connected law firm of PwC in Romania, was awarded the title of „Romanian Entrepreneur’s Attorney” at the Attorneys Gala Ceremony organized by Ziarul Financiar. The award was conferred in recognition especially of the assistance offered in the course of time by the D&B David şi Baias attorneys to Jean Valvis entrepreneur upon his exist from the diary and sparkling water businesses, as well as for the important role played by D&B David şi Baias team in the selling by Alexandru Hergan of several real estate projects.

D&B David şi Baias team was also nominated by Ziarul Financiar for the transaction of the year in the retail domain, for the assistance provided to Mega Image in relation to the acquisition of 4 Prodas stores.
The attorney team of D&B David şi Baias was also conferred the award for the best tax consulting project of 2009 at the Top Attorneys Gala Ceremony organized by Finmedia for Steaua Română Refinery project. Under this project, the D&B David şi Baias attorneys represented the interests of Steaua Română Refinery in the series of litigation proceedings brought against the latter by the National Agency for Tax Administration, involving claims amounting to RON 36,000,000, comprising the cancellation of the tax levy decision issued by the tax authority against the refinery, but also the three forced execution proceedings triggered by the tax authority with a view to recovering the amounts unlawfully levied against the refinery. Within this project, D&B represented the interests of Steaua Română Refinery before all the courts of jurisdiction and venue, the litigation team having displayed a high level of professionalism and awareness of the national and European legislation, and having innovatively implemented the European law principles into tax litigation practice.
This project also stands out by the fact that, for the first time, both the lower courts and the High Court of Cassation and Justice answered with one affirmative voice to the arguments brought to support the case, the majority of them founded on the Community principles applicable to tax matters, the supreme court ruling in favor of the enforcement of the principles enshrined in the European legislation, and setting a limit in this case to the inequitable restrictions of the national law.

D&B David şi Baias was also conferred the award for the best legal assistance project in the financial and capital markets section, for the key role played in the authorization of the bond issue program of ProCredit Bank Romania, amounting to over RON 91 million. The team led by Laura Toncescu, D&B David şi Baias Partner, made history on the local capital market, this being the first bond issue program authorized by the National Commission of Securities that leaves at the issuer’s discretion the date and exact amount of the bond issues.
In the field of financial services, D&B David şi Baias was also nominated by Ziarul Financiar for the financial transaction of the year, for having acted as main consultant of General Electric and Dogus Holding Group in the process of setup and authorization of GE Garanti Bank SA by the National Bank of Romania.
